Currency Exchange in Argentina: Where to Swap Your Cash
Navigating Argentina's multitude of currency exchange rates can leave even the savviest travelers scratching their heads. Below is a summary:
There are two different exchange rates in Argentina for its local currency (Argentine Pesos) conversion to US Dollars. The official bank rate will be reflected in your credit card when you use it. The informal exchange rate is used to buy and sell US Dollars (commonly known as “Parallel Dollar” or “Blue Dollar”) You can check the exchange rates on a daily basis on:https://www.lanacion.com.ar/ for example. It is recommended to exchange US dollars to Argentine Pesos in an informal “exchange bureau”, and make all payments in cash. In this way, you will save up to 50% of your expenses.
Please note: while many establishments now accept credit cards, it's still wise to carry some cash for convenience. For a typical stay of 3 to 5 days in Buenos Aires, factoring in expenses for food and transportation only, we recommend between around 100 USD a day but this could vary depending on your lifestyle and preferences
Please contact our facilitator as she will be able to provide straightforward assistance with currency exchange. She will be able to assist you directly to be able to do it in a safe and hassle-free.
